Description of the work:
The painting "Misericordia" taken from an important baroque work of the
great Caravaggio, is interpreted and linked to the contemporary art by
the Maestro Luigi Alba. He revise the work's meaning, altering the
scene's composition and changing some characters. The original work
proposes a real sign of mercy, on the other hand the new artist's
interpretation has a direct meaning that coincides to the present. It is
in keeping with the 21st century's cheekiness, with the sensibility's
lack of today and most of all with the cooling of love. The artist
wanted to bring to mind the tragic event of September 11, changing in
the painting the man with the torch, with the Twin Towers' explosion of
the World Trade Center, picking out the Blessed Virgin's inhibition
gesture, where she's protecting his son from the vision of the life that
we're living, that is not really mercy. The artist changes the innkeeper
too with Cafia, the man who encouraged the Christ's death, that was an
incredible injustice's sign of the humankind. The Maestro Luigi Alba
with this painting shares, with a great sensibility, the grief of all
the people that lost their loved ones during that tragic day, wishing
that one day the human being will be ready to draw love from the Mercy's
chalice.
